Marathon For New Zealand
Towards the end of the year New Zealand will see the first Marathon, one of the most promising of Britain's post-war passenger aircraft. A lively interest is being taken in the Marathon by aviation authorities in America, as well as in Commonwealth countries, for it is one of the first of the airliners of its class to comply with the tighter international standards, fomulntcd by ICAO, for take-off and all round safety characteristics, which do not, in fact, come into world force until 1952.
The Matharon, built by the Handley Page Company, carries 14 to 22 passengers, accordng to the routes to be flown, and has ample range to fly from Britain to Australia, though extra fuel tanks will be needed to give the necessary margin for the 1300-mile flight across the Tasman.
