MONOWAI RUNS INTO STORM
(P.A.)
WELLINGTON, Aug. 9.
The Union Company’s liner Monowai, bound for Wellington from Sydney, ran into a storm during the night. All night the wind was blowing at hurricane force her commander, Captain G. B. Morgan, reported to the company this morning. Captain Morgan reported that although he could have maintained the schedule, the speed of the ship was eased down to avoid greater discomfort to the passengers. A later message to the company from the Monowai stated that the wind was still of hurricane force and that Captain Morgan was unable to give a definite time for the ship’s arrival at Wollineton. The message added that the Monowai was hovc-to in the interests of the comfort of the passengers.
