OVER 1000 NEW TROOPS LAND AT HONG KONG

(11 a.m.) lIONG KONG, June 14. The troopship Empire Hallidale docked this morning with more than 1000 army reinforcements. They included the main body of the First Leicestershires and advance parties of the Middlesex Regiment and Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. It was stated today that the Portuguese authorities in Macao, 40 miles west of Hong Kong, have requested Lisbon not to send reinforcements to strengthen the colony’s defences. The Macao authorities felt that whatever reinforcements were sent would be insufficient to withstand any frontal attack. The present garrison is sufficient for the suppression of any possible internal trouble.
