U.K. “Scraping Barrel” To Keep 180,000 Troops Overseas

(11 a.m.) LONDON, June 14. The Minister of War, Mr. E. Shlmvell, said today that 180,000 officers and men of the British Army were serving overseas.

Addressing men of the Royal Scots Regiment in Edinburgh, he called these overseas forces a “substantial contribution to the protection of British interests in various parts of the world.” The British Army was meeting its commitments throughout the world although those responsible for the administration were almost scraping the barrel.
