PROMISING PUPS AT MAHIA HUNT
With the main pack of the Mahia Hunt Club at Tiniroto last week-end, the usual auxiliary pack, consisting mainly of young hounds, provided excellent entertainment for a number of hunting enthusiasts at Nuhaka Valley who were unable to make the journey to Tiniroto.
Hounds first threw out on the riverbank. and it was pleasing to note the keenness they displayed. They readily located a hare that proved to be a veteran of unusual cunning and more than adequate speed. The enthusiastic pups, however, harried him for almost an hour, showing the stamina and determination of their breed.
With the first quarry taking refuge on Tod’s Hill, a second draw was made on “The Island.” Here again the pups proved their powers, and put a field of very commendable horses to a vigorous- test. This chase continued spasmodically throughout the afternoon, taking in the whole of the sparred area, and providing an eventful run in the hills.
Tea at Mr. T. A. K. Stewart’s home completed a very satisfactory day. and the master expressed the feelings of all present in thanks to Mrs. Stewart, the hostess for the day.
