WATERSIDER AWARDED £4371 AS DAMAGES FOR INJURIES IN SHIP

i P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 13. Damages totalling £4371 12s 2d were awarded to William Francis Everest Easton, a waterside worker, in the Supreme Court today. Easton, suing by guardian, the Public Trustee, against Holm and Company, claimed that while working on the steamer Holmlea in July, 1947, he fell down a hatch, as the result, he alleged, of a beam not being properly replaced. He received a fractured skull and broken wrist, shoulder and arm. The Chief Justice, Sir Humphrey O’Leary, in entering judgment, said: “It is a good settlement and a wise one.”
