NEW R.S.A. TREASURER.—The new honorary treasurer of the N.Z.R.S.A. is Mr. C. J. Tustin. He replaces Mr. E. C. Hale, who has held office since 1947. Mr. Hale tendered his resignation because of pressure of other duties.—P.A. SATURDAY POLLING URGED.—The Auckland Education Board decided yesterday to urge upon the Minister of Education that electoral pollingdays be Saturdays to avoid interference with school work when schools are used for polling booths. SALARIES WHILE ON TOUR.—FuII teachers’ salaries are to be paid to the All Blacks, N. H. Thornton and E. G. Boggs, and also the New Zealand cricketer, B. Sutcliffe, by the Auckland Education Board during the time they are overseas. This was decided at meeting of the board. ESCAPE CHARGE ADMITTED Pleading guilty to a charge of escap- * ing from Mount Crawford prison on May 13, Richard Stanley Wratten, aged 27, a carpenter, was committed by Mr. J. S. Hanna, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to the Supreme Court for sentence. UNESCO ACTIVITY .—The Association of New Zealand Art Societies has been recommended to the Government as a co-operating body by the New Zealand National Commission of UNESCO Advice that a book on “Lebanon —The Story of the UNESCO Conference,” written by Mr. M. H. Holcroft, would be published in New Zealand shortly was received at yesterday's meeting of the New Zealand ‘ Commission in Wellington,
