Aust. Refuses To Supply Arms To Burma
(9 a.m.) CANBERRA. May 21. It is stated authoritatively that Australia promised to supply food and clothing to Burma to relieve distress, but has refused a request for a largescale supply of arms. The request was made by Mr. Say Arng, director of Burmese military supplies, who recently visited AusHe’ was told that the Commonwealth’s policy is against the supply of arms to any country other than Britain. The limit of assistance that could be expected by any other country was small consignments of weapons suitable for police purposes, such as went privately to Malaya during its period of intense bandit activity.
