Constable Charged With FireRaising : 'Get Own Back On Jews'

(10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 19. Clifford Alexander AVeallans, a 22-ycar-okl London police constable, was charged at the West Ham Court today with seven offences alleging arson or malicious damage to East London factories. .

The court was told that fires in two factories alone caused £64,000 damage. In a statement read in court, Wcallans was alleged to have said: “I wanted to get my own back on the Jews. I saw many bad things done to our blokes in Palestine and I wanted to even things up. lam terribly sorry for all I have done, but I cannot control myself.”

Weallans was also alleged to have said that he had caused 11 fires and to have said: ‘‘l did all the fires for the same reason—to get my own back on the Jews.” The case was adjourned until May 26.
