SANDS’ T.K.O. WIN IN FIRST ROUND

(11 a.m.) LONDON, May 16. Dave Sands, the Australian triple boxing champion, beat Jackie Jones, the Bolton middleweight, in the first round of a scheduled 10 round contest at Newcastle tonight. The referee stopped the fight after 80 seconds when Jones had taken a terrific amount of punishment. This is Sands’ second win in three fights in England. Sands weighed list. 7Jlb. and Jones list. 731 b. Sands has now restored much of his nrestige which he lost by his defeat at the hands of the American, Tommy Yarosz, and his moderate victory over the Frenchman, Lucien Gaboche. Sands tonight electrified the crowd. He battered Jones from rope to rope aid showed that he was a “killer,” the reputation with which he came to England.
