WIFE OF MR. OMANA, M.P., DIES AT 43 YEARS

(S.R.) WAIROA, May 16. The death occurred suddenly on Saturday night of Mrs. Pare Omana, wife of Mr. Tiaki Omana, M.P. for the Eastern Maori District. She was 43 years of age. Mrs. Omana was born in Wairoa and educated at the local district high school. She was a prominent hockey player and with her sister represented Wairoa on a number of occasions.

Twenty years ago she married Mr. Tiaki Omana. taking up residence in the Mahia peninsula where Mr. Omana is engaged in farming. When Mr. Omana decided to stand for Parliament Mrs. Omana played a prominent part in the success of his campaigns. He won the seat on the second attempt. Mrs. ' Omana also played a prominent part in the Ratana movement.

On Saturday night the body was taken to the Taihoa meeting house where the usual Maori ceremony was observed. Throughout yesterday a continuous stream of visitors paid their respects to the deceased. / A -number of Government representatives and delegations from various North Island Maori-tribes arrive today. The interment is to take place at Wairoa tomorrow afternoon.
