Treatment Of Indians In Sth. Africa

(10 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 15. The United Nations Assembly yesterday invited India, Pakistan and South Africa to hold a round-table conference on the treatment of Indians in South Africa, “taking into consideration the principles and purposes of the Charter and the declaration of human rights.” Forty-seven nations voted for the resolution. South Africa was the only opponent. South Africa claimed that her treatment of non-whites was a matter essentially within her own domestic jurisdiction and did not fall within the competence of the United Nations.
