DISTRICT LINKS BUSY AT WEEK-END: P.B. CLUB TOURNEY

GOLF

Ideal weather conditions favoured attendance on the various golf links in the district over the week-end, and despite the counter-attractions of the opening days of the shooting season, all clubs had two good days of golf. On the P.B. club’s links at Awapuni a medal match and a Stableford bogey provided competition for those not engaged in the initial tournaments, which are now approaching finality. Some excellent scoring was recorded. Results in the tournaments were: — No, 1 Tournament. —Third Round: J. H". Orrell (handicap 8) defeated D. W. McKeague (7), 3 and 1; J. T. Dodgshun (4) defeated J. S. Adams (11). 6 and 5; P. L. Singer (7) defeated L. L. Winter (17), 5 nnd 4; G. 11. Stewart (4) defeated D. McErlich (11) at the twentieth. No. 2 Tournament.—Third Round: A. Barns-Graham (8) defeated G. L. Winter (9); G. T. Simpson (16) defeated N. Phillips (16), at the nineteenth; A. M. Singer (11) defeated H. B. Robinson (15), 2 and 1; B. Hoy (15) defeated R. J. Blackburne (22), 1 up.

No. 3 Tournament. —Third Round: H. K. Swan (18) defeated A. N. Williams (11), 1 up; H. N. Early (19) defeated R. Ivess (18). 3 and 2; Y. Hutchinson (17) defeated F. H. Stephenson (13). The medal match played on Saturday resulted in a good win for G. Brebner (handicap 18), who returned a net score of 69. D. A. Wells (13) and R. G. Ogilvie (21) each netted 70, the firstnamed taking second place on the count-back Other good cards were those of E A. Heaton (24), W. T. Morete (11), 72 net; F. Fenwick (1) 73; H. N. Early (19). L. Stokes (15), W. Langlands (19), 74; H. F. Hamilton (11), W. W. McLean (17), and G. O. Craike (11), 75.

Yesterday’s Stableford bogey match gave a clear-cut win to J. T. Dodgshun (handicap 4), with a score of 37 points. T. D. Munro (14) and A. W. Hoy (14) both scored 32 points and Munro was placed second on the count-back. Other leading scorers were E. T. Clapham (21), W. Langlands (19), and G. Montgomery (16), 30 points; F. H. Dobbie (13). S. Monteith (21), and H. F. Hamilton (11), 29 points. The season on the Awapuni links is now swinging into its stride, and a four-ball match for next Saturday will probably draw a large entry. The draw and starting-times will be published later in the week. Interest in the annual King’s Birthday tournament, a club tournament in which the Dodgshun Cup is the principal trophy, is indicated by the number of entries already received.
