MATCH PLAY AT AWAPUNI: SECOND ROUND RESULTS

Second-round matches in the current tournament fixtures on the P.B. Golf Club’s links at Awapuni held the attention of a number of leading players over the week-end, results being as under:—

Lysnar (22), 8 and 7 Medal Match and Stableford In a medal match played on Saturday Jack Adams (handicap 11) returned a net score of 69 to take first place, with I. L. Boagey (22)' in second place with a net 72. Other good cards returned were those of A. W. Hoy (15). 73; T. E. Lovelock (24), 74; D. A. Wells (13), 75; I. W. Tyerman (14), 76: I D Bramweil (4), 76: J. O. Musgrave (12), 77; and G. H. Fisher (12) 77.

A Stableford bogey competition was won on the count-back by B. H. Irvine (17), who scored 39 points. N. Williams (11) also scoring 39. Other players who figured well up in this competition were R. B. Sinclair (20, 38 points; J. H. Mansfield (2) 37 points; E. T. Brosnahan (8) and J. Coutts (11) 36 points: E. Fitzmaurice (15). Y. Hutchinson (17), and G. L. Winter (9), 35 points; G. H. Stewart (4) 34 points; J. Atkins (13) and J. L. South (15), 33 points; and D. W. McKeague (7) 32 points.

The departure for Auckland on transfer of one of the club’s leading players. Tom Atkins, was the subject of regretful comment in the clubhouse during the week-end. Atkins came to light in the past season’s major fixtures and is expected to develop first-class form with experience. He hopes to return to Awapuni for the 1949 open tournament.
