MOTHER OF 13 FINED £lO FOR SHOPLIFTING

(P.A.) ' AUCKLAND. May 7.

The mother of 13 children. Alice Victoria Bennett, aged 45, and her married daughter Mildred Alice Tompkins, aged 24. pleaded guilty in the Police Court today to shoplifting charges.

The police said that Bennett was caught with three pairs of children’s bloomers valued at 7/6 in a shopping bag. Tompkins placed children’s wear valued at 11/5 under her cardigan. Neither had been in trouble before.

‘‘So many women go around shops and steal goods and when caught express sorrow,” said Mr. J. H. Luxford; S.M. “They think they can get away with it. You will each be fined £lO to be paid in weekly instalments of 10/-.
