BRITISH-U.S. RADIOS BATTER THROUGH SOVIET JAMMING

LONDON, May 7.
Britain and the United States broke through the Soviet jamming of the air waves today in a full-scale technological war to capture the attention of Russian radio listeners.
The battle of words and static began at 2.15/ p.m. G.M.T., when the United States j fltate Department’s "Voice of America.” 8.8. C. and American armed forces network in Europe threw all the available equipment into action in an effort to carry the West’s version of the Berlin blockade to the Russian public. The 8.8. C. spokesman stated that apDroximatel.y half the 8.8. C. and American short-wave frequencies suffered severe interference today. The jamming was heavier on the American channels than on the 8.8. C. channels. Fifteen frequencies were completely clear. American officials in Frankfurt said the “Voice of» America” was using powerful army transmitters in Germanv to ram the programmes into Russia from midnight to 5 a.m. daily. '
