EIRE OBJECTS, TO U.K. RETENTION OF NTH. IRELAND
(10 a.m.)
DUBLIN, May 8
The Eire Prime Minister, Mr. J. Costello, tabled a motion in the Dail “indignantly protesting” against the British Parliamentary Bill declaring that the six counties of Northern Ireland remain part of the United Kingdom. The motion, which will come before the House on May 10 calls upon the British Government and people “to end the present occupation of our six northeastern counties and thereby enable the unity of Ireland to be restored and agelong differences between the two nations brought to an end. Mr. E. De Valera, speaking at Ennis, County Clare, called on the Irish people in ail parts of the world to oppose the Irish Bill introduced in the House of Commons.
“If there are people who think that the Irish race can be halted now, they are making a mistake,” said Mr. De Valera. “We must make up our minds with far greater determination that we are going to use this challenge to end partition. We must try to get our people from the north of Scotland to New Zealand and from the farthest point east to those living in the United States and Canada to make their protest against this final act of aggression. A challenge of this kind can only be met by determination on the part of the Irish people to show that the nation shall not be thwarted.” . .
An all-party front is being formed in Dublin to oppose the Ireland bill by every practicable means, says Reuter’s correspondent in Dublin. Mr. De Valera will join with the Prime Minister, Mr. Costello, in making an appeal for Irish opposition to the bill in all lands where Irishmen are.
