CLUB RUGBY IN WAIROA MAKES PROMISING START

!<S.R.)

WAIROA, May 9

The Rugby season opened in Wairoa on Saturday in good weather. The first of the senior games proved most interesting. Mahia, last year’s champions, accounted for Nuhaka bv three points and the newiy-fcrmed Kiwi team gave'Huramua a fright, the last named just managing to notch a try in the last few minutes to win eight-six. Athletic fielded a young vigorous fifteen who should provide solid opposition during the season, the team being fast and reasonably weighty. They had no difficulty in running out the winners by a good margin over Tapuae. Results:

Senior.—Mahia 11 v. Nuhaka 8: Huramua 8 v. Kiwi 6; Athletic 28 v. Tapuae 3.

Junior. —Athletic 6 v. Tapuae .5; Nuhaka 9 v. Mahia nil; Celtic 6 v. Morere 3; Te Reinga 3 w Erepeti nil.
