N.Z. STOWAWAYS ON TAMAROA: ONE MAN MISSING

(10 a.m.) PERTH, April 27. The police have so far failed to locate one of three men who stowed away at Auckland on the liner Tamaroa which is now bound for South Africa and England. The stowaways were discovered several hours after the ship cleared Auckland- , „ It was explained in the Fremantle Police Court yesterday that Patrick Skinner, aged 24, of Lire, had escaped capture. A representative of the shipping company said the Tamaroa was delayed for an hour outside Fremantle while a search was made for Skinner. As he had not been found when the ship berthed, a guard had to be placed on the Tamaroa. One of three men, Victor John Ball, a seaman, of New Zealand was remanded until tomorrow because of a doubt whether he is 17 or 18. Leonard Jones, aged 30, a carpenter of New Zealand, who pleaded guilty was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment. Jones said that on the eve of the Tamaroa’s departure from Auckland he was with some of the stewards and went to sleep on the ship Next morning he awoke at sea and immediately reported to the second steward.
