CHRISTENING ABOARD H.M.N.Z.S. PUKAKI IN DUNEDIN HARBOUR

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 27. The 16-months-old son of the medical officer in H.M.N.Z.S. Pukaki, Surgeon-Lieutenant D. A. Purdie, was christened on the quarterdeck of the frigate in Dunedin harbour yesterday, states a radio message from the Pukaki. It was the first christening aboard the Pukaki and is believed to be the first held in a naval ship in Dunedin. The boy was christened lan Stewart Purdie, and the ceremony was conducted by Archdeacon W. A. Hamblett, of Dunedin. Those present included the Mayor of Dunedin. Sir Donald Cameron, and the ship’s captain, Lieutenant-Commander L. E. Herrick, D.S.C., R.N., and officers. Doctors F. K. Rennie and L H Scott were godfathers by proxy.
