CAPTAIN OF NEW COLLIER DIES ON TRIP FROM SUEZ
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 26. The Union Steam Ship Company’s new collier, Konui, arived in Auckland from Antwerp on her maiden voyage yesterday. Her master, Captain L. Ehlert, died at sea when the vessel was four days from Fremantle on the voyage from Suez across the Indian Ocean. The Konui was brought into Fremantle the command of her chief officer, Mt! A. E. McCombes. Another master of the company, Captain B. S. Bowman, took over the command at Fremantle. Captain Ehlert was an Australian and had been with the Union company for a number of years. He brought out another new ship for the company after his return from war service. After she has finished the 'discharge of the Auckland portion of her basic slag cargo the Konui will go to Wellington, where she will complete and refit for her entry into the West Coast coal trade.
