NTH. ISLAND EXCEEDS POWER QUOTA

(P.A.) • WELLINGTON, April 27. The consumption of electric power in the North Island last week exceeded the allocation of 30,975,000 units by 307,000 units or 1.18 per cent. The consumption totalled 31,342,000 units. The level of Lake Taupo fell during the week from 1174.95 ft. to 1174.75 ft.. and that of Waikaremoana dropped from 1999.0 ft. to 1999.3 ft. At the end of last week, dams at Mangahao were almost empty whereas the week previously they were nearly full. The rainfall for the week was 1.33 in. at Taupo, 1.35 i- at Waikaremoana and O.GSin. at Mangahao. The electricity controller, Mr. A. EDavenport, stated that the hydraulic position in the North Island remained satisfactory under the circumstances. The storage position in the South Island had slightly improved and the Waitaki River ilow was still satisfactory.
