“Haunted Jacket” Upsets Theatre Actress

LONDON, April 25.

A 50-year-old “haunted jacket” is upsetting a theatrical cast playing in London.

The jacket, which, described as “evil,” had already had unpleasant 1 effects on two well-known actresses who have had to wear it in the play, “The Queen Came.” Members of the cast refused to have the jacket in the theatre after a medium had told them it was haunted “by something from the past.” Frederick Piffard, producer of the play, said the deputy leading lady, Miss Erica D’Foyle, complained of a feeling of strangulation when she wore the jacket- Mr. Piffard said that when he induced Miss D’Foyle to put the jacket on again after the show she immediately went into hysterics. “My wife then tried it on,” he said, “but it did not appear to affect her. But when she took it off we saw what appeared to be a number of red finger marks on her neck,” said Mr. Piffard. The leading lady. Miss Thor Hird. said that whenever she wore the jacket she had the feeling that someone was groping at her neck.
