2 N.Z.E.F. ASSOCIATION SMOKE CONCERT WELL ATTENDED

The first smoke concert of what is expected to be a highly successful series, was conducted by the Gisborne branch of the 2 N.Z.E.F. Association in the clubrooms, Cobden street, on Saturday night. A large number of members and their friends gathered to renew acquaintanceand recall incidents of wartime service. Entertainment provided during the evening kept the assembly amused and the time passed all too quickly for those present. Toasts proposed by the president of the Gisborne branch, Mr. I. McCallum, were: “The King,” “Absent Friends,” “Artists and Guests,” and “The Association.” In proposing the last-mentioned toast, Mr. McCallum said that the Gisborne branch was only a recently formed one, but it was expected thaT it would build up in fairly short order. Amenities were being offered to members, while it was proposed during the winter months to hold a number of social functions. In replying to the toast of “Artists and Guests,” Mr. R. Poole, voiced the opinion of those present, when he said that the evening had been an extremely enjoyable one and he was sure that most of those present not already members of the 2 N.Z.E.F. would become members. Entertainers who assisted in the programme were Mr. H. Clare, magician; Mr. R. Poole and his Hill-Billy band; and Mr. R. Gear.
