New Police Inspector For Gisborne District

Advice has been received at the Gisborne poiioe station that Inspector J. Crowley, at present stationed in Christchurch, has been appointed inspector in charge of the Gisborne police district.

Inspector Crowley is expected to lake up his new position in the near future. He replaces Superintendent J. Mclntyre, who last month was transferred on promotion to Dunedin, Inspector Crowley joined the police force on January 1, 1920, and for a number of years served as a constable on the West Coast of the South Island. In 1936 he was promoted to sergeant and transferred to Christchurch. Seven years later he again received promotion, this time to the rank of senior-sergeant and was transferred to Auckland. He was later stationed at Whangarei. In 1946 he was transferred on promotion to sub-inspector back to Christchurch, in which city he has remained until the present promotion and transfer.

During the past month since the departure of Superintendent Mclntyre, Senior-Sergeant G. S. Norris has been temporarily in charge of the Gisborne police district.
