SIX MONTHS’ GAOL FOR BIGAMIST

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 8. Within a few minutes of William Charles Mills, aged 24, a kitchen hand, being sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour for bigamy, the woman he deceived was granted a decree absolute. Mr. Justice Hutchison, in the Auckland Supreme Court, described it as a sordid case.

Mills, he said, had married his lawful wife in Cardiff in 1946, lived with her only two days and then went to sea. In 1947 Mills went through a form of marriage in Auckland. He told the second woman he was married but had been divorced
