MR. and MRS. P. J. SMITH, St. Heliers, Auckland, formerly of Gisborne, are spending a holiday in Gisborne. They are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Traue. Mangapapa.
MR. WHITNEY YOUNG, a former United States Consul of Auckland, left by air ysterday for America with his family. Mr. Young’s term as consul has been completed. He has been succeeded by Mr. J. W. Boyd.
MRS. HILDA ROSS, M.P., has been unanimously endorsed as the National Party candidate for the Hamilton electorate. Several speakers at the meeting eulogised the work which Mrs. Ross had done for the community, the Dominion-wide recognition she had received for her efforts on behalf of women and children, and her faithful service to the party. Mrs. Ross will contest her third election for Parliament this year.
MR. G. H. JACKSON, general manager of the Ford Motor 1 Company in New Zealand, has been appointed director of Export Division, Canada, and leaves Auckland in the Aorangi on May 3. Mr. Jackson, who has been 14 years in New Zealand, was a member of the Supplv Council in New Zealand during the war and his services were coopted by the Government as director of production, without salary. He was awarded the 0.8. E.
