Country School Decapitation

Parents of the Waerenga-a-Hika area were not heavily represented at Monday night’s meeting convened to discuss further the proposed transfer of the higher standards of the Makauri School to the Gisborne Intermediate School.

Two representatives of the more distant area were in attendance, and signified their adherence to the proposal advanced by the Hawke’s Bay Education Board to make the transfer.

Waerenga-a-Hika interest in the proposal hinges upon a recent decision to close the Waerenga-a-Hika School and incorporate its pupils with those of Makauri, a process which will balance the loss of pupils from the latter school by a transfer of the upper standards to the Gisborne Intermediate School.
