Day Of Hope For West And Warning To East

(10 a.m.) LONDON, April 5. The Times, in a leader, says: “To the Western Nations yesterday was a day of hope and confidence.. To Russia and the East it should have been a warning. “Yet if they are not satisfied by the text of the pact itself the Russian leaders need not look far for convincing proof that the pact is purely defensive and contains no threat to the Soviet Union.

“All hope that in time, when the efforts of the 12 signatories have given the pact that strength and solidity which it now lacks, it will be possible to reach an agreement with the Soviet on all matters which at present divide and harass Europe.”
