ATOM SHOCK SQUADS IN AMERICA

NEW YORK. The United States Atomic Energy Commission is taking precautions against atomic explosions—either by war or accident. It has announced plans for special “shock squads” trained to rush aid and equipment to radio-active areas. Tentative plans call for stockpiles of Geiger counters at strategic centres. These instruments tell the extent of dangerous radiation and could be used by rescue workers in roping off dangerous areas against an explosion. Crews of up to 100 civilians would be trained so that they could be rushed into any area in the event of explosion or attack.
