YOUNGER STEERS EASIER THAN AT LAST MARCH FAIR
Bullocks with any size maintained the advanced values made two weeks ago. two and a-half year steers were inclined to case, and 18-month steers were cheaper by las per head when the third cattle fair of the season opened yesterady at the Matawhero saleyards and an average yarding was presented to buyers. Quality was well maintained.
Buyers from Marton, Hawke's Bay, Putaruru, and the Waikato were in the market generally and there was a fairly strong demand locally for any top lines. Big-boned bullocks fetched from £l6 10s to £l7, well-finished but smaller from £ls 15s to £l6 7s 6d, medium from £l4 to £ls, and lighter from £ll 17s 6d to £l3 15s. Well-grown two and a-half year steers brought from £1.3 10s to £l4 Bs. medium sorts £l2 to £l3, and lighter £lO to £ll 12s. Eighteen-month steers were traded at £lO 8s to £l9 18s for choice lines with breeding, and £9 7s to £lO for smaller and medium sorts. Smith, £l6 7s 6d; 14, P.A., on account of Tangihanga station, £ls 15s; 13, Hereford, on account of Mr. R. Sherratt, Ngatapa. £l3 15s. Eighteen-month Steers, —Sixty, Hereford, Tahora-bred, on account of Mr. C. J. Hunt, (p) £lO 6s; 56, P.A., on account of Mr. A. G. McPhail, £lO 6s; 61, P.A., lighter, from Wharerata, £9 11s; 38, P.A.-Hereford cross. £lO 18s; 49. P.A., on account of Messrs. Kemp Brothers. Rere, £lO 18s: 46, Hereford, on acconut of Mr. Randall Sherratt, Ngatapa, £lO ss; 31, P.A., from Matawai. £lO ss: 36. P.A., on account of Mapu station, Wharekopae, £lO 3s; 22, P.A., on account of Mr. J. Tombleson est., Waimata, £lO 10s. The fat cattle entry consisted of 98 head. Eight well-finished P.A. bullocks offered on account of the Bailie est., Waimata, were passed in at £l9 and others ranged from £ls to £l7 7s Cd. A line of five five-year-old Hereford barren cows sold at £l4 11s and others made £ll 15s to £l2 Is. Speyed cows realised £l3 10s. Heifers sold' at from £lO 15s to £l3 12s 6d and two Jersey vealers fetched £4 15s. The female entry was sold today.
