ITALY CLOSELY GUARDS WESTERN POWERS OFFICES

(10 a.m.) ROME. April 4. The Italian Government took special precautions against demonstrations against the Atlantic Pact today. All the Rome embassies of the Powers signing the Atlantic Pact were under a heavily reinforced police guard. Jeeploads of police, armed with sub-machine-guns, automatic pistols and truncheons, were stationed in the side streets, especially round the British and American Embassies.

In all major Italian cities, the consulates of all the signatories were put under special guard.
