HOME RUGBY UNIONS ACCEPT N.Z. PLAN FOR TOUR NEXT YEAR
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. April 5. The proposal by the New Zealand Rugby Union that the 1959 British team should play 21 matches hi New Zealand, including four Tests and then visit Australia to play seven matches, including three Tests has been accented in principle by the four home unions.
Advice to this effect was conveyed to last night’s meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union in a letter from the committee representing the four home unions. It was stressed that the acceptance was based on shipping arrangements and also that a period of 10 days for practice before the first match be made available.
It was presumed that the date of the first match in New Zealand would be about May 20.
The letter is to be considered at a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Rugby Union on Friday.
