IN AND OUT OF TOWN Miss M. Martin has returned to Dunedin after staying with her sister, Mrs. D. F. Hair, Waihirere. Mr. and Mrs. R. Fitzgerald, Ngatapa, were the week-end guests of Mrs. B. G. Kemp, “Pouriwai,” Rere. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Snelling, Ruatoria, were the guests of Mrs. Bull, Mangapapa, last week-end. Miss Annette Jex-Blake, A.N.A.T.D. (London), A.F.A.T.D. (Australia), 8.D., Mangapoike. left Gisborne today for Wellington where she will teach ballroom dancing at the Phyllis Bates Studio. She will also study for further examinations. Miss Jex-Blake taught dancing in Gisborne last year. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Downey, Hicks Bay, visited Gisborne last week-end. Mrs. W. Shakespeare, England, has been the guest of Mrs. P. Pittar, sen., Gladstone road. Miss A. Williams, "Ngamoe,” Ruatoria, left Gisborne today for Wellington. On Friday, accompanied by Miss J. Mcßea, Wairarapa, she will leave for Australia. Mrs. I. S. Primrose. Harris street, left today on a visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. McTavish, Matahiia, Ruatoria, were the guests of Mrs. W. F. Robb, Harris street, this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Motion, Waiuku, have been visiting Gisborne. They stayed at the Masonic Hotel. Mr .and Mrs. W. L. Torbett and Miss Pam Torbett, Wairoa, were visitors to Gisborne last week-end. Mr. Torbett judged the nonies at the Autumn Show. Miss Pat Shortt, Morere, was a visitor to Gisborne at the week-end. .She rode in the Autumn Show. Miss R. Stewart. Sydney, stayed at the Masonic Hotel while on a visit to Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. 11. B. JefTerd, Tokomaru Bay. were the guests of Mrs. R. Hansen, Hexton. for the Autumn Show. Miss Gay Ford. Katakataia, Ruatoria, has returned home after visiting Gisborne. Miss M. Meade, who is nursing in Auckland, has returned to Auckland after staying with Mrs. A. J. McTavish, Matahiia, Ruatoria. Manga rakai, Tokomaru Bay were the guests of the Misses Busby, Harris street, last week-end. Miss A. Dickie, Wairoa, was a visitor to Gisborne for the Show. Mr. and Mrs K. G. Ifunciman. Tikitiki. returned home today after spending a few days in Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Fraser, Poroporo, Tikitiki, were week-end visitors to Gisborne. Mrs. K. W. Bull and her two daughters. Misses Hilary and Margot Bull, formerly of Clifford street, left today for Napier, where Mr. and Mrs. Bull are making their future home. Itlr. and Mrs. H. Bridgman, Bright street, recently returned home after visiting Christchurch and Wellington. Miss P. Wilkins, Te Puia, is the guest of Mrs. P. Luckin. Plarris street Miss M. Fitzgerald, Wainui Beach, was a week-end visitor to Waikaremoana Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ogilvie, Tolaga Bay. paid a brief visit to Gisborne last week-end. They were the guests of Mrs._ 11. G. Wellborne, Kelvin road, Haiti.
CHRISTENING CELEBRATED A few relatives were invited to Mrs J. C. Field's home in Clifford street on rnday for afternoon tea to celebrate the christening of her grandson, Paul Robert, infant son of Mr, and Mrs. K. MISCELLANEOUS PARTY Mrs. G. H LofTler, Pouawa. and Miss onona Cox, Wainui road, were the joint hostesses at a "miscellaneous" party last week-end when they invited 30 friends to Mrs H. r. LofTler’s home at Pouawa. Miss R. Wellborne and Mr. Graham Smith were the guests of honour prior to their wedding on April 29. Tennis and deck tennis were played by the guests, who were invited to an evening meal, afler which they enjoyed singing. Miss E. Averill played the piano. The groom-to-be. instead of the bi ide-to-be. unwrapped the many useful gifts, assisted by his prospective groomsmen. Messrs G. Burland, J. Mitford and T. Smith. Mrs. G. H. LofTler was wearing a blue and white striped dress. Miss Shona Gox a tailored cream blouse with a red flared skirt. . Miss R. Wellborne a floral dress in lime green, tan and yellow tonings. and Mrs. H. T. LofTler a pale blue satin backed crepe dress. Mixed bowls in autumn tonings decorated the house.

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church was the scene of an attractive wedding when Vendela Hale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F, J. Hale, Fox street, was married to Graham, son of Mr. S. L. Ledger and the late Mrs.' Ledger, McLean street.
The Rev. J. Kingsley Fairbairn officiated at the ceremony. The church had been decorated by the bridesmaids, with mixed bowls of asters, dahlias and ferns.
The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a deep ivory satin frock. A heart-shaped neckline trimmed with Guipure lace was a feature of the fitting bodice, which was pointed at the waist back and front. The long fitting sleeves were painted over the hands. The circular gathered skirt fell into a train at the back. The bride’s silk net veil, which toned with her dress, was embroidered with water lilies and held in place with cream water lilies. She carried a bouquet of water lilies and maidenhair fern. ’Maids in Fuschia
Frocks of French taflcta in a light fuschia shade were worn by the bridesmaids, Misses A. Hale, chief, and N. Hale, the bride's sisters, and Miss I. Bolcer. The frocks were designed with heart-shaped necklines and petal sleeves. The bodices, which were pointed at the waist back and front, were fuelled each side of the centre panel and fastened down the back with tiny covered buttons. The skirts were similar to the bride’s, gathered and circular. Aster-pink mittens were worn and the bridesmaids wore coronets and carried bouquets of asters and sweet peas in fuschia and pink shades. The best man was Mr. D. J. Rutherford, and the groomsmen Messrs. N. S. and M. A. Ledger, the bridegroom's brothers. The bride’s mother received the guests at the Bon Accord, wearing a powder blue crepe dress, offset with a spray of scarlet amaryllis, a white hat and bag, while the bridegroom's sister wore a rust red crepe dress, a matching hat and a spray of roses in autumn tonings.
For travelling the bride chose a white jersey silk dress patterned in wine tonings warn under a light grey swing coat and wine accessories.
Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Ledger will make their home at Tokomaru Bay.
