THE REV. E. P. BLAMIRES, Dunedin, was a guest speaker at yesterday’s weekly luncheon of the Gisborne Rotary Club. MR. SHOLTO BLACK M.A., headmaster of Haileybury College, Melbourne, is to visit his home town, Opotiki, shortly. A son of Mrs. John Black, Otara. Mr. Black is an ex-student or thes Gisborne High School. MR. C. G. E. BARKER, M.P., and Mrs. Harker, who spent the past few days in Gisborne, left this morning by train on their return to Waipawa. Mr. Harker who represents the Hawke s Bay electorate, took the opportunity during the week-end to meet groups of his constituents in the northern portion of the electorate.

MR. PETER G. DODS, of the Gisborne staff of the New Zealand Insurance Company Limited, has received notice of his transfer to the Invercargill branch and leaves shortly to take up his new duties. Mr. Dods is a member of a Gisborne family, and has been prominent in Rugby football, having achieved junior representative honours. MR. W. YATES, assistant Director of Broadcasting in New Zealand, returned by air yesterday after a three months visit overseas studying broadcasting administration techniques and trends in the United Kingdom, U.S.A. and Canada Hq arrived at Whenuapai and flew to Wellington this morning. He is to report to the Minister of Broadcasting Mr. F. Jones, on his findings.

M P BURTHE-MIQUE, commercial attache on the staff of the French Legation in Wellington since February, 1946, has been appointed to a similar post in Lima Peru He and his family will leave’ by the Tamaroa on May 14 from Auckland for Europe, where he will spend several months prior to taking up his new post.

MR R J THOMPSON, registrar of the Maori Affairs Department, Gisborne, is due to retire from that position in August and will commence retiring leave prior to the date fixed for his retirement. His successor in Gisborne has not yet been appointed. Mr. Thompson started his career with the department in Wanganui and came to Gisborne from Rotorua 29 years ago to fill a vacancy as accountant here._ In 1933 he was "promoted to the position of registrar in Gisborne.
