DEATH FOLLOWS INJURIES RECEIVED IN CAR ACCIDENT
INQUEST CONCLUDED
Re-opening an inquest yesterday on a married woman, Clarice Julia Hunter, who died in the Cook Hospital on February 12, the coroner, Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., found that death was due to uraemia following toxaemia of erysipelas after a motor acident. Evidence was given by Ronald Green Johnstone that on Saturday, January, 29, lie, accompanied by his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Hunter were returning to Gisborne from Wairoa. About four and a half miles north of Morere his car went over the bank, turning over several times. Mrs. Hunter was thrown clear and was later taken to the Cook Hospital. Witness considered that excessive loose metal on the road was the cause of the car skidding and going over the bank. Mrs. Freda Johnstone corroborated her husband’s evidence. Constable L. Gordon also gave evidence. Mrs. Hunter had been admitted to the Cook Hospital at 1.30 n.m. on Sunday, January 30, said Dr. Barbara Farnsworth Cupit, junior house surgeon. The deceased was suffering from lacerations and contusions ant) subsequently died on February 12, In her opinion death was caused by uraemia following toxaemia of erysipelas which complicated the injury.
Sergeant D. M. Campbell appeared for the police.
