All Vehicles Must Stop At Controlled School Crossings

The attentien of members of the public to an amendment in the traffic (road crossing) regulations, concerning pedestrian crossings under the control of school patrols was drawn by the town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council. Provision of the amendment was:— “Every driver of a vehicle, iacluding the driver of a motor vehicle or a horse-drawn vehicle and including i the rider of i a bicycle, when approaching a crossing at which a patrol sign is extended, shall stop before reaching the crossing apd re- • main stopped while the sign is extended.” Mr. Jenkins pointed out that this amendment applied only to school crossings whilst they were under the control of school patrols. At all other crossings vehicles yielded the right of way to a pedestrian engaged in crossing the roadway within any authorised pedestrian crossing upon the half of the roadway over which such vehicle was lawfully entitled to travel.
