DEFECT REVEALED FORGED “TOTE” TICKETS
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. Mar. 7. B’orged totalisator tickets were presented and cashed at the Franklin Racing Club's meeting at Pukekohe on Saturday afternoon. The forged tickets were all £1 tickets for a ( win. The fraud was not discovered until after the third race, the Waiuku Hack Handicap. Eight forged tickets on the winner, Tamara kau, were presented, and £67 was paid to the person who handed them in at the totalisator pay-out window The frauds were discovered when a check was being made In each case, the forgeries were extremely difficult to detect.
The rorged tickets were genuine tickets belonging to the totalisator proprietors. Blomfield and Company, and they came into the hands of someone, who'Stamped the correct code word on them. The different code words are known onlv to some totalisator officials before thev are issued. The code word is changed for each race. The forced tickets apoeared to be genuine. The onlv way in which they could be detected was by ,4 defect in the spacing of the code “ord.
