(10 a.m.) NANKING, Mar. 6. The cruiser Chungking, formerly H.M.S. Aurora, has reached the Rus-sian-controlled port of Dairen after refuelling at Chefoo, states a spokesman for the Chinese Second Naval Squadron. In Nanking Admiral Kwei Yuang Ching, commander of tjie Chinese Navy, revealed that the ' Chungking eluded the shore batteries at the mouth of the Yangtse when she deserted a week ago to the Communists by steaming to and fro as if her engines were being tested. When out of range the cruiser steamed north towards the open sea.

The admiral said that he had wirelessed the cruiser advising the crew not to make a historical mistake of making China look ridiculous in the eyes of her British donors.

Tire Chungking, one of the Arethusaclass cruisers, was completed at Portsmouth in 1937. She displaces 5220 tons and mounts six six-inch and eight four-inch guns and six 21-inch torpedo tubes. Maximum speed is 32 knots.
