Attitude Of Minority Over Wages Rise Issue Criticised
( P A.) AUCKLAND, Mar. 5. A resolution endorsing the wages policy decided on at the last meeting of the national council of the Federation of Labour favouring a wage increase of 155 an hour if possible was carried last night by the Auckland Trades Council . The secretary of the federation, Mr. K. McL. Baxter said that in its efforts to prepare the way to state a case to the Court of Arbitration the national council of the federation had been ‘ abused, aceuscd and indicted by a small percentage at least of members and quite possibly by a number who were not prepared to understand the problem.” . „ T , He added: “The Federation of Labour represents about 210,000 workers. If people attack us, we are not suckers or cowards who are going to take it lying down. The policy of the federation is one of conciliation and arbitration. We are bound by that decision.
