Four New Records In N.Z. Athletic Championships

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar. 5. Four New Zealand records were broken and one was equalled during the first day of the New Zealand women and junior men’s track and field championships at Pukekura Park yesterday. The junior men's pole vault, discus throw and 100 yards sprint were bettered and the 440yds record equalled. In the women's championship events the New Zealand record for the 75yds was lowered by 3-10 sec. The general standard of athletics was exceptionally high, about 50 New Zealand standards being attained. Auckland contestants have established a two-point lead over Canterbury in the junior points competition for the Towers Shield and arc level with Canterbury, six points each, in the women's points competition for the Lumley Sisters' Memorial Shield. Wellington lias 1! points in the junior men’s competition, Waikato 5. Otago 4, Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay 3, and West Coast (North Island) 2.
