TE HAPARA SCHOOL FANCY DRESS PARTY

Prince and pirate, cowboy and sailor, milord and milady, all the wellloved characters of tradition vied with more modern variations of an old theme —“dressing up,” at the Army Hall on Saturday afternoon when the Te Hapara Parents-Teacher Association held a fancy dress party. Wide-eyed tots watched from the sidelines, somewhat overawed by the sudden transformation of familiar faces, while older children threw themselves into the afternoon’s fun with all the abandon occasioned by being “some else instead.” Entertainments were provided by dancing students in two popular floor shows, and Mr. I. J. Corn, who showed "movies” to an interested audience. Ice cream and sweet stalls were surrounded by an eager stream of youngsters. Mr. H. C- Gibson, headmaster of the Te Hapara School kept things moving swiftly, assisted by members of his staff who supervised games and dancing. The gay cavalcade marched past Mesdames W. C. Kohn and I. D. Bramwell, who adjudicated. Prizes, presented by Mrs. H. C- Gibson, were awarded to the following:— Girls. Under five years: Sandra Clarke (Gainsborough lady). Five to eight years: Janet Eastham (White Christmas). Nine years and over: Judith Smith (Dolly Vardep).

Boys.—Under five years: Roger and Donald Jenkins (dwarfs). Five to eight years: John Gribben (cat). Nine years and over: Raymond Crafts (Arab). Most original costume: Shirley Smith (rhubarb). Shoulder sprays were presented by a little white fairy to Mesdames Kohn, Bramwell. Gibson and Tyer. Members of the organising committee were Mesdames G. J. W. Tyer, convener, H. C Gibson, L. R. Faulkner. G. L. Winter, R. Crawford, and R. I. Crafts.
