KING MAY BE INVITED TO OPEN EMPIRE GAMES

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March I The King may be invited to open the Empire Games at Ancle land next year.

On the motion of Mr. L. A. Tracy, the executive of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association last night referred the question to the administration committee for further consideration.

Mr. Tracy suggested that an letter be sent 10 His Majesty through the Governor General, Sir Bernard Frevberg. pointing out that the Empire Games were to be held at Auckland and that if his health permitted and if he was contemplating a visit to New Zealand, the people would be very happy to have him open the games.

A -telegram received from the New Zealand Olympic weight-lifter. M. Crow, asking if weight-lifters could accept cash for personal expenses from their association and retain amateur status was read.

The reply, which was approved, was:

“An Olympic competitor can receive personal expenses without our express sanction.” “As far as this association is concerned. Crow is no longer an amateur.” said the chairman, Mr. A. D. Bayfield.
