BRITAIN’S JANUARY TRADE A RECORD

(11 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 21. The Board of Trade announced that Britain’s adverse balance of trade has fallen, steadily since August and the record January figures have brought it to more than one-third below the monthly average of 1948. The January exports were £159,200,000, which is £12,100,000 above the previous record established in November. The imports valued at £187,200,000, were also a record, being £1,600,000 above the previous peak last July.
