SUBURBAN MAILS : LATE COLLECTION TO BE ARRANGED

With a view to improving connections with early-morning air, road and rail dispatches from Gisborne, the chief postmaster at Gisborne, Mr. D. J. Foley, has arranged for a new schedule of collections for postings from all street receivers throughout Gisborne. The effect will be that suburban residents will be able to use street, receivers with the knowledge that their* mails will be collected In time for inclusion in dispatches on* the following morning. The new system will be operated by collectors who will start their rounds at 9 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, visiting all street receivers and also the posting boxes at Te Hapara and Mangapapa, post offices. Week-end postings will be cleared on Monday mowings, commencing at 4.15 o’clock, to effect a connection with outgoing mails' the same morning. Posting-boxes at the Chief Post Office will continue to be cleared in the early morning, bht the 5 a.m. clearance of street receivers in the vicinity of the office would cease.

The late-evening clearances will givt an improved service to a large number of people, and in particular will relieve suburban residents of the necessity ol coming into town to post mail in th# evenings. It is hoped to give effect to the new arrangement at an -early date. The private-box lobby at the Chief Post Office is now open continuously, the change being much appreciated by renters of boxes.
