WORK TO START IMMEDIATELY ON WAIROA AIRFIELD

(S.R.) WAIROA, Feb. 32. After a lor ; period of negotiations, setbacks and misunderstandings it appears that Wairoa at lasi is going to secure an aerodrome. At a meeting last night it was stated that the Wairoa Aero Club had been successful in obtaining permission to proceed with the laying down of jjh airstrip on the aerodrome site at Paeroa block. It is proposed to construct a grass run-way to comply with the conditions of the Civil Aviation branch of the Air Department for recognition as a licensed aerodrome. . The main runway is to be 2000 ft. long by 300 ft. in width and the subsidiary runway 1500 ft. by 300 ft. The club proposes to clear the area with giant discs, grade it and sow grass. The work is to commence immed?t ately and will be entirely carried out by club members who already had had placed at their disposal bulldozer and other earth-moving equipment. The aerodrome jvhen completed will be of inestimable value to the community as it will then be possible for ambulance, taxi and all light aircraft to use the field, which is only a mile and a-half from the centre of the town, j
