“Belle of New York” Plans in Hand
PRODUCER APPOINTED
The special general meeting of the Gisborne Amateur Operatic Society called for last night in order to discuss arrangements for the production of “The Belle of New York,” attracted a considerable number of members and prospective members of the society. The president, Mr. W. C. Kohn, was in the chair, and associated with him was the secretary, Mr. D. C. Dyer. The meeting approved the executive s action in hiring the complete mounting of the opera from the Hamilton society and received with 'applause the information that Mts. H. C. Gregory had been appointed producer. The position of musical director came up for discussion and as Mr. Kohn had regretfully declined that office, it was decided to approach Mr. W. Lighton with a view to securing his services for the position. A suggestion was put forward that ballets for the opera be drawn from dancing schools in Gisborne, but no action was taken. Production dates were set down for July, with rehearsals commencing early in April.
