Launch Destroyed By Fire at Rotorua: Owner Suffers Burns
((P.A.) ROTORUA, Feb. 21. When the engine exploded, the 23ft. cabin launch Avalon was completely destroyed by fire on Lake Rotorua yesterday. One passenger, together with a girl who could not swim, jumped overboard when it was obvious the Are was beyond control and clung to a beacon on the submerged rocks for almost an hour before being rescued. The other occupants, a man and a woman, managed to reach the shore. Mr. K. W. Hale, owner of the boat, was near 'the engine when the Are started. When his clothes caught Are he dived overboard. He suffered burns to the face, legs and hands and was admitted to the Rotorua Hospital.
