WARM FUNERAL TRIBUTE

One of (he largest funeral gatherings seen in Gisborne for some time honoured the memory of Mr. John Morton yesterday. The service held at St. Andrew’s Church was followed by an attendance which taxed the capacity of the building, and a long procession of cars followed the hearse to the Taruheru cemetery, where the burial took place in .the Soldiers’ Plot. Pall bearers at the church were Colonel R. F. Gambrill and Messrs. B. G. Morris G. D. Muirhead, J. F. Preddy, John Morton, jun„ and W. Turbitt; while at the graveside Messrs. J. Mohan, P. Sweeney, A. 11. Miller, I. MeCallum, H. Kennedy, and J. Watt were chosen as bearers.

The Rev. J. Kingsley Fairbairn conducted the services, and members of the Oddfellows’ Lodge performed their funeral rites before the R.S.A. poppy ceremony and the sounding of the “Last Post” and “Reveille.”
