TMBER CUTTING AND EROSION

The possibility of a new erosion problem being created by denudation of forest growth in hill-country on the East Coast was brought before the P.B. Catchment Board yesterday in a letter from the conservator of forests, Roto rua. The letter referred to projected tim ber-cutting in the Hikurangi survey district, and suggested that the board should assure itself that no objection could be taken to the project on a soilconservation basis. The board instructed its engineer to make an inspection of the locality and to report back to the board.
